Vapor Pressure Treater 500 (VPT 500)
Crude Oil Stabilization System

Vapor Pressure Treater 500 (VPT 500) is a modular, electrically-powered hydrocarbon stabilizer designed to accept and condition a variety of heavy hydrocarbon input streams, including wellhead fluid, off-spec crude oil, and high vapor pressure natural gas liquids (NGLs). The unit accepts multi-phase fluid and produces a stabilized crude stream meeting local RVP / VPCR requirements, as well as a residue gas stream.

It effectively sorts the hydrocarbon molecules, compared with a phase separator system it can result in a 10% or more increase in on-spec crude oil production. The VPT 500 is an all-electric solution which will decrease emissions by eliminating fired burners and most compression, while providing condensables-free gas for any remaining fuel gas consumers and for sale. For on-the-well-pad application, onboard pumps isolate the system from the hydrocarbon source, minimizing or even reducing backpressure on the wells versus traditional surface infrastructure.
The VPT 500 is provided in a convenient, ruggedized 40’ skid package, enabling rapid deployment at field locations. The unit is sized to produce 500+ BPD of stabilized crude oil output, meeting the needs of smaller production locations or wellpads whose production has already blown down. It can replace and free up existing, oversized surface infrastructure.
The VPT 500 can be easily paralleled to provide even greater capacity. It can also be easily and cost effectively swapped with a different capacity unit (either larger or smaller, depending on the situation) and then redeployed to another location, enabling efficient reuse of capital.

VPT 500 – Features & Capabilities

Performance – Bulk processing of multi-phase fluid at pressure, producing stabilized crude oil, condensate or NGLs with user adjustable RVP / VPCR. Stabilized product is subcooled and can be directly pushed to market through surge vessel and midstream LACT, enabling a tankless production location. If tanks are used, minimal to no flash is generated by the completely stabilized production. Residue gas produced is free of condensables and ideal for use in on site power generation or for other fuel gas consumers or can be sold to the gas midstream often without the need for compression. Compared with a 3-phase separator or heater treater, the VPT 500’s superior hydrocarbon sorting can result in an increase by 10% or more stabilized crude oil yield, maximizing the customer’s value from produced hydrocarbons.
Capacity – 500+ BPD of stabilized product output with significant turndown. Can accommodate high GOR and high water cut applications through correct sizing of front end blowcase and bulk water separator. Easily paralleled to provide whatever processing capacity is required. Easily swapped to right-size and match production rates, providing exceptional CAPEX efficiency.
High Availability – Proprietary software and robust hardware enables high availability, which greatly improves economic return and is essential for mission critical oilfield applications. Proprietary design and software accommodate water breakthrough to minimize scale deposition. System detects internal paraffin buildup (if any) and enters a periodic internal hot oil cycle to restore normal operation, all without user intervention.
Operating Parameters – Feed pressure 50 to 325 PSI. Feed Temperature 80 to 120 F.
Robust Construction – Built tough to withstand rough oilfield environments and the punishment of regularly occurring deployments and redeployments. Continues operating even in extreme heat and extreme cold.
Highly Mobile – The VPT 500 is a 40’ long skid-based system with quick and easy disconnects. With appropriate planning and staging; teardown, transport and setup can be achieved in as little as 24 hours.

Stabilized Product Output – Onboard pumps output stabilized product to on-site storage or directly to the midstream LACT through a surge drum. Product is subcooled with an included air cooler to lock in any remaining volatiles and meet midstream and storage temperature requirements.
Small Footprint – The VPT 500 replaces or eliminates the need for many other pieces of surface equipment including heater treaters and separators, vapor recovery towers, bulk oil separators, VRUs and other compressors, ECDs and storage tanks. This can significantly reduce pad size and surface disturbance.
Eliminates Routine Flaring – Removes volatile components from the crude, eliminating flash gas which prevents the formation of oil tank battery vapors and the need for their routine flaring or for VRUs to capture them.
Eliminates Emissions – All electric solution which removes most sources of combustion on location. Simpler process with fewer connection points removes many point sources of emissions. Allows many sites to be classified as a minor emissions source, greatly simplifying permitting and compliance. Compliant with EPA OOOOb/OOOOc rules and midstream agreements.
Autonomous – Leveraging Pioneer's sophisticated control software, the VPT 500 is designed to be easy to operate with simple push button controls, minimizing the required attention of field operations personnel.
Cloud Enabled – Real time status and diagnostic information provided from the onboard SCADA system is made available via cellular, local area network, or Starlink connection and stored in a secure online data historian for future reference. Customer or Pioneer technicians can log in for remote configuration, monitoring & control, and status and alerts can be set to automatically push to relevant stakeholders via text message and email.
Safe – Built for full compliance with all relevant oilfield equipment standards, including ASME code stamped vessels, UL 508-A rated electrical panels, and Class 1 Div 2 compliance, the VPT 500 design has also been subjected to a rigorous HAZOP process. The VPT 500 can be connected on each site with the customer's systems for permissives and emergency stop controls.

The VPT 500 can accept a wide range of input compositions, providing product stabilization through superior hydrocarbon sorting.
VPT 500 –Performance in Crude Stabilization
The unit is designed to be paralleled to enable as much capacity as desired. When used on production locations, depending upon the GOR and gas richness, 10% or greater crude volume uplift can be realized. For other applications, low cost off-spec product can be upgraded to high value on-spec crude, condensate or NGLs. The VPT 500 meets these needs better than other stabilizers on the market and can provide outstanding economic return.
